DAY 1 ULAANBAATAR CITY
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. You’ll be greeted at the airport and escorted to 3* hotel. City tour: National History Museum, Gandan Monastery, National Mongolian traditional show concert.
DAY 2 KHAR ZURKH BLUE LAKE
Drive to Khan Khentii national park. Visit Chinggis Khaan Statue, Khar Zurkh Blue Lake. The full name of the lake is the Blue Lake of Black Heart. Black Heart is the pointed topped mountain on the north side of the lake. Blue Lake is a very important place in Mongolian history particularly of Chinggis Khaan (Genghis Khan). Here Temuujin (Chinggis Khaan’s childhood name) was given the title, “Chinggis Khaan”, and was invested as a “The Great Khaan of all Mongolia” in 1189. The stone ruins of a ger with a diameter of 15 meters on the south side of this lake could be the ruins of the palace ger where Chinggis Khaan was proclaimed khaan. There are also wooden statues in the forest dedicated to Chingis Khaan and the next 32 khaans of Mongolia. The surrounding area of Khukh Nuur is quiet, peaceful and wonderful for hiking & relaxation.
DAY 3 BALDAN BEREEVEN MONASTERY
Drive to Baldan Bereeven Monastery. Visit of the site containing several deer stones. Baldan Bereeven Monasteryis a (Yellow Hat) Buddhist monastery located in the Baruun Jargalant River valley Omnodelger village, Khentii province Mongolia. First established in 1654, the monastery grew to be one of the largest and most important in Mongolia at its height in the mid 19th century, housing up to 8000 monks. The monastery and temple complex were destroyed by Mongolia’s communist regime in 1937.
DAY 4 DELUUN BOLDOG
Drive to Deluun-Boldog is a site located in Dadal village, Khentii province that is considered to be the birthplace of Chinggis Khan. It is frequently referenced in Mongol folklore, has a sacrosanct reputation among Mongols, and is located in a rural area made up entirely of small towns and villages. A large statue of the Khan was built 1962 for his 800th birthday in 1162.
DAY 5 DORNOD PROVINCE
Drive to Choibalsan District is a sum (district) of Dornod Province in eastern Mongolia. Sum center is 55 km North from the Dornod aimag capital Choibalsan city. It is the capital of the province of Dornod. The city administrative unit’s official name is Kherlen sum, with area of 281 square kilometers or 108 square miles. It is situated at the Kherlen River, at an elevation of 747 meters or 2,451 feet above sea level.
DAY 6-7 BUIR LAKE
Drive to Buir Lake. Visit Menengiin Steppe. The biggest lake in the eastern region of Mongolia is Buir Lake. ” In 2004, the Buir Lake was included in the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance according to the Ramsar Convention.” The convention is the one of the biggest documents for conservation and sustainable utilization of wetlands, especially the place where water birds settle down most. There is 3-5 meter long sand embankment which was created from waves in the south of the lake. The average depth of the Buir Lake is seven meters. The Khalkh Gol River flows in the Buir Lake while Orshuun River flows out of it. There are 34 species of six clans of fish, 49 species of floating water weed, 5 species of floating animals and 4 species of pearl oysters in the lake. The Buir Lake is the lake with the most fish and most types of animals and birds in Mongolia. In addition, the longest water border of Mongolia continues in the lake.
DAY 8 ERDENETSAGAAN SUM
Drive to Erdenetsagaan village. The site called Ikh Burkhant is located on the Western bank of the Khalkh River, 35 kilometres (21,75 miles) North the sum of Khalkh, in the province of Dornod, in the extreme East of country. On this site, you can see many statues of Buddhist gods, among which the huge one, sculpted right on the hill, of Janraiseg, “Avalokitesvara” in Sanskrit, protective God represented with the legs apart. The local regent Bat-Ochiriin Togtokhtor or Tovan (Van means lord) ordered the statue in 1859; it was erected in 1864, then renovated from 1995 to 1997.
Tovan and Buddhist lamas erected the statue horizontally on the Western bank of the Khalkh River, in order to symbolize the protection of the oriental border and the security of the country. Building the site was made possible thanks to donations of the people and lamas. The statue is 30 metres (98,43 feet) long, and 1 to 3 metres (3,28-9,84 metres) deep in the rock. It was made with stones carried by 1000 carts pulled by bullocks and 180 craftsmen were required to work on it. Around the statue, 12 stupas and 20 smaller statues representing impressive Gods who’re watching prayer wheels were built. You can see on the ground some strange stone representing broken faces and a stone couple that’s forever hugging each other.
DAY 9 SUKHBAATAR PROVINCE
Drive to Sukhbaatar province. Visit Ganga Lake, Steppe Cave. Taliin Agui (Steppe Cave)is the largest cave in Mongolia 14 km to the north of Shiliin Bogd Mountain in Dariganga sum of Sukhbaatar province. The cave is located in the middle of vast steppe and stretches 200 meters in length and occupies in total space of 100.000 cubic meters.
Steppe cave is the creation of volcanic air pressure under the ground. The cave is basalt, considered to be one of the biggest caves in Mongolia and the most beautiful cave of all the 200 caves found around Mongolia. It is peppered with stalagmites and the basalt walls are striking.
DAY 10 KHERLEN RIVER
Drive to Kherlen River. The Kherlen River is one of the biggest rivers in the Eastern Mongolia within the Pacific basin. The river takes its origin at the upper part of the Khentii mountain range and flows to the south first, and then gradually to the east and ultimately joins Dalai Lake in China. The river watershed area is 116455 km.sq and length of 1090 km in the territory of Mongolia.
DAY 11 BACK TO THE ULAANBAATAR CITY
Drive to Ulaanbaatar. Rest of the day free. With our guide, you can go shopping in the center of the city.
